Roads in Siaya

Siaya County has been in discussions with the National Government over the construction of a bridge that will connect Alego/Usonga and Ugenya sub-counties at Kalkada, Deputy Governor Dr. James Okumbe said. He said that talks were at an advanced stage to have the link that will save public time and long-distance travel accomplished before the end of the tenure of the current government. Dr. Okumbe was speaking at the county headquarters when he officially launched Siaya Legacy Magazine. The Deputy Governor said that Siaya County has, in the last nine years, managed to open up and maintain over 2000 kilometers of roads, with plans to tarmac two farm roads on the pipeline.

Construction Sector in Siaya

Siaya County has witnessed many construction projects in the recent past, especially after the handshake. The County Government of Siaya, through its Department for Housing and Urban Development (DHUd), funded Kshs. 11.5 million in 2021 for the establishment of market shades at Awelo Centre in Siaya Township Ward to meet the growing demand for selling space by farmers trading in fresh produce. The funds would facilitate the construction of the Kshs. 11.5 million fresh produce market project with components of market shade, water tower, abolition block, office block, and landscaping and perimeter wall. The project that was funded by DHUd is part of the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) and aims at jumpstarting economic development at Awelo and its environs.
